About this Event

Celebrate the festive season at Colchester Castle’s free Christmas Open Evening on Wednesday 9 December 2026, from 3pm to 8pm.

Explore over 2,000 years of history as you wander through the Castle, enjoy festive refreshments and take in the Christmas decorations throughout the building. It’s a chance to see the Castle in a different light and enjoy a relaxed evening with family and friends.

Children can also meet Father Christmas and receive a small gift during a five-minute visit. Booking is not required. Simply drop in and enjoy the evening.

The Castle can be particularly busy during the Open Evening and queuing may be in operation throughout the event, including for Father Christmas. Before your visit, we recommend reading our access information page to find details about getting here, facilities and what to expect on arrival.

This event is suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
