About this Event
As part of your visit to Colchester Castle, join arts practitioner Clare Sams on Monday 26 October, any time between 10.30am and 12.30pm, for a hands-on embroidery workshop inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry.
Taking inspiration from the stitched scenes that tell the story of the Norman Conquest, participants aged 11+ (and adults!) will create their own Norman-inspired bookmark using simple embroidery techniques. Participants will design their bookmark before stitching their chosen pattern using a range of materials inspired by the colours, motifs and decorative styles found in Norman art.
This workshop offers an opportunity to explore traditional embroidery methods similar to those used in the creation of historic textiles, while producing a unique handmade keepsake to take home.
Norman-themed colouring sheets will also be available for younger children accompanying participants.
Information on facilities, accessibility and how to find us can be found on our Colchester Castle Access page.

How to Book
There’s no need to book in advance. After purchasing a day ticket, or with a valid annual pass, simply ask at Reception when you arrive and we’ll point you in the right direction.
The workshop has limited capacity, and at busy times there may be a short wait before you can take part.
