About this Event

You’ve marvelled at Gaia and Mars — now there’s an opportunity to visit the Moon.

We’re over the moon to announce that Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon will arrive at Colchester Castle from 24 July to 31 October 2026, bringing this awe-inspiring artwork to the heart of the city.

Measuring six metres in diameter, the Moon features highly detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At a scale of approximately 1:600,000, every centimetre of the internally lit sculpture represents six kilometres of the Moon—offering a breathtaking level of detail and realism.

Suspended within the historic Castle, this spectacular installation combines light, sound and space to create a truly immersive experience. Accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones, it invites visitors to pause, reflect and connect.

Perfect for families, friends and curious minds, this is a unique opportunity to explore the beauty, science and shared cultural significance of the Moon.

Luke Jerram said “I am delighted to be bringing my artwork back to Colchester Castle and this time visitors will get to marvel at the moon. Around the world, people have their own historical, cultural, scientific and religious relationships to the moon. And yet somehow, despite these differences, the moon connects us all.”

Don’t miss your chance to visit the Moon yourself—right here in Colchester. 🌙
